Dubious acronym for “single women over fifty.”

According to a report in The Telegraph:

Single women over 50 – or Swofties – have never been happier enjoying nightclubs, exotic holidays and social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, a new study has found.

British Swofties apparently have busy social lives and are keen to learn new skills (salsa dancing and foreign languages especially). Swofties enjoy keeping fit, and are unfazed by new technology.
